A Look at Prince Caspian: The Official Illustrated Movie Companion

The Coramandel Peninsula in New Zealand... where the children see Narnia again. If you're dying to get an up close and detailed look at Prince Caspian, this book is definitely for you.
I've had the pleasure of reading through this visual companion over the last couple of weeks, and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. It simply doesn't gloss over any aspect from the film. From an introduction that talks about the journey back into Narnia, to a thorough look at the process it took to finally make Reepicheep a reality, I can't seem to find much fault in this book.
The book has sections focusing on the pre-production visuals, the location scouting with detailed looks at what was filmed at each location, the major players in the cast, the visual designers of the film, the "auralists" (as the book calls them--those refining the sound and writing the music for the film), and finally the special effects team and their work. They really seem to have covered the areas we fans want to see and read most.
My favorite by far was the locations section--glimpsing those sweeping landscapes and the bright, brisk colors that inhabit the "Narnian" places in this world only made me anticipate the film more. I find that I'm always taken in by epic landscapes--knowing that these places exist in our world and not just in a quite digital Narnia is encouraging... now to find those places and visit them myself.
If I had one wish, though, I think I would've wanted to learn more about the men "behind the curtain"--Andrew Adamson and Douglas Gresham. Getting more details from Adamson on how he envisioned the film and the things that he was excited about in the film would have been nice. Additionaly, hearing what Douglas Gresham (C.S. Lewis's stepson) thought about the process and how it coincided with his vision of Narnia is missed. Simply more interviews with them would lend a necessary top-down perspective the book lacked.
But, that's a small negative. The book is quite enjoyable. I recommend it very highly...
